Wednesday 6th December ushered in our last PROBUS meeting of 2023 at the Legion on Lansdowne St. About 57 members joined together to enjoy the start of the Christmas festive season.
Doug Byers, the Director of PROBUS for Area 9 in Ontario, visited with us and provided an interesting summary on the origins and purposes of PROBUS, from its start in England in the 1960’s through to an insight into the structure and activities of other PROBUS clubs in neighbouring areas of Ontario. He encouraged PROBUS Peterborough to keep in touch with the other local clubs and ROTARY; to share ideas and partner with each other to benefit from joint activities and bright ideas.He stressed “ keep having fun” with all the events and activities.
Entertainment came from John Boyko and fellow band mates – an enjoyable, and nostalgic, set of music from the 1970’s, 80’s and 90’s. A real trip down memory lane, as most members could be seen singing along with all the words from these tunes of our “youth”! Lunch was a sumptuous turkey dinner, prepared by the staff of the Legion’s kitchens, with all the requisite gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce, cheesecake etc. Many thanks to the Legion staff for the great meal. And of course, Santa appeared to have photos taken with all the members!
All in all, a lovely start to the Christmas season. Thanks to all on the Committee for such a cheerful, happy event.
