June 7, 2023: “The Ashburnham Bridge Project”

Elwood H. Jones is Archivist at Trent Valley Archives, Emeritus Professor of History at Trent University, a former Saturday columnist with the Peterborough Examiner.

His many books related to Peterborough, some with co-authors, include Peterborough the Electric City (1987), An Historian’s Notebook (2011), Winners (1995), Fighting Fires in Peterborough (2005), Postcards of Peterborough and the Kawarthas (2014), Finding Champlain’s Dream (2015) and on the Ashburnham Bridge centenary (2021).

He edited the Heritage Gazette of the Trent Valley from 2000-2022 and is chair of the Publication Committee at Trent Valley Archives where the current project is editing and updating of a major book on Peterborough from 1820s to 1850s.

His awards include the Carnochan Award from the Ontario Historical Society for lifetime achievement, and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal.

The current project on the building of the Hunter Street Bridge was in partnership with Steve Russell, Marcus Ferguson of YourTV, and Graham Hart, formerly the face of CHEX-TV news.
